Double Down

Kevin Kelly | Brooklyn, U.S.A.
Main Lobby, Toronto Marriott Markham (170 Enterprise)
Materials: Eastern white pine + epoxy + pigment

Kevin Kelly is an American sculptor based in Brooklyn, New York. He works with metal and wood to create striking sculptures that are environmentally friendly.

Kelly on his goals as an artist: “I want to create works that have the strength and depth to appeal to cognoscenti such as Louise Bourgeouis. But I also would like to walk that fine line and create work that is simultaneously arresting and challenging to the vast majority of people not immersed in the art world.”

Double Down represents the double helix of human DNA, which is composed of four elements: cytosine, guanine, adenine and thymine. To reflect this, you’ll notice that the dice featured in this striking sculpture only use numbers 1 through 4, with the dice factoring in the element of chance and unpredictability.
