OUR STORY

Welcome to DTM

Downtown Markham is a vibrant 243-acre urban centre and growing master-planned community immersed with more than $25 million of thought-provoking public art, seamlessly connected to public transit and major roadways, adjacent to North America’s largest urban park, with 72 acres of landscaped green space and a truly unique mix of amenities.

Located in the heart of Canada’s High Tech Capital, Downtown Markham is powered by District Energy, reducing community emissions by 50%, and is just steps from the Markham Pan Am Centre, Unionville GO Station, York University’s new Markham Centre campus, opening 2023.

Downtown Markham has already become a destination for people living and working in York Region, with the Pride of Canada Carousel – a one-of-a-kind merry-go-round made featuring Canadian-themed sculptures made from reclaimed objects – entertaining guests in the heart of Downtown Markham, Toronto Marriott Markham now offering a sophisticated place to stay just across the street, and a lively program of year-round events.

The Remington Group is widely recognized for its community-driven philosophy, and it is our mission to make Downtown Markham one of the world’s most liveable and sustainable urban centres. Since the early 1990’s, Remington has worked closely with all levels of government to formulate a nimble policy framework and forward thinking master plan that would enable Downtown Markham to evolve into York Region’s premier hub of culture, education, commerce and entertainment.

In addition to beautiful public spaces adorned with art and inviting urban streetscapes, each building offers a unique mix of uses; whether it be luxury residences, premium office space occupied by industry leaders such as Aviva Canada and Under Armour, compelling entertainment, or everyday necessities – Downtown Markham has everything you need. And this is just the beginning.

AT OUR CORE

Sustainability in DTM

Sustainability has been a principle tenet in the development of Downtown Markham. Building on 243 contiguous acres of previously undeveloped land allowed The Remington Group a unique opportunity to implement emerging sustainable technologies from early stages of planning. With the goal of fostering sustainability awareness within this growing community, TRG works directly with the City of Markham and the Markham Environmental Advisory Committee, to ensure that we provide reliable, competitive and environmentally superior energy services.

Downtown Markham incorporates the naturally occurring green space of the Rouge River Watershed, which is also home to North America’s largest urban park. Preserving the existing Rouge River ecology while also taking steps to regenerate hundreds of species of wildlife, Remington completely rebuilt a tributary running through the middle of the development, restoring aces of lost natural landscape eroded by more than 100 years of farming, reinforcing our commitment to honour the natural heritage of our sites.

At full build out, Downtown Markham will become the largest collection of LEED-certified buildings in North America. Our building designs will target LEED Silver or higher; going above and beyond industry standards by mandating that commercial buildings and public spaces are also built in adherence to LEED protocols. The overall goal is to provide a greater benefit to the quality of life to those who live, work and visit our community.

As a long-standing supporter of district energy The Remington Group has integrated Markham District Energy into the fabric of the community, enhancing environmental protection of the surrounding habitat and reducing community emissions by 50%, while also providing more reliable energy services for our residents. The Atlantis system has also been implemented within our community, a pioneering storm water drainage technology new to North America that cleans and polishes storm flows, taking the pressure off municipal infrastructure.
