Denis Rousseau (b. Ottawa) is a multi-talented artist as a sculptor, videographer and photographer. He holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts from the University of Ottawa and has demonstrated his wide skill set for more than twenty years, creating installations of interactive, kinetic art. Various themes such as birth, the sacred, death and sexuality are reference points in his work. His pieces are often activated by visitors or follow an established rhythm. Rousseau is known for addressing his themes with irony, playfulness and absurdity.

Since 1976, Denis Rousseau’s work has been shown in many individual and collective exhibitions in Québec, Canada and abroad, notably at Christiane Chassey Gallery, Les Voûtes Poyenne, and the Musée Régional de Rimouski. His work is featured in several private and personal collections, including the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography, and the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal.

The remarkable Cils #2, part of Rousseau’s private collection, is an interactive kinetic sculpture and is proudly on display at the RCAG in Downtown Markham.
