Live music, carnival rides, delicious food options and of course the intoxicating smell of mouth-watering barbeque beef and pork ribs cooking on the grill are on tap for the Markham Rotary Ribfest, happening July 5-7 in Downtown Markham.
World-class barbeque experts will be gathering in the parking area east of The Origin in Downtown Markham for the Rotary Ribfest, now in its 16th year. Admission to the festivities is $2, with all admission proceeds going to the Dr. Bear Program for Children at the Markham-Stouffville Hospital. Free parking is available north of the Aviva Canada building, at Enterprise Blvd and Birchmount Road.
This year’s Ribfest features a wide variety of food options to satisfy every taste and dietary restriction. There will be traditional summer country fare like poutine, corn roasts, blooming onions, funnel cakes and beaver tails, as well as new Asian options, including vegetarian deep-fried tofu and BBQ squid.
There will also be carnival rides for the kids and live entertainment on stage throughout the event, including Markham favourites like the Honeyrunners, Future History and Monowhales.

But the stars of the event truly are the ribs. Eight of Ontario’s favourite, award-winning ribbers will be highlighting this year’s Ribfest, including Billy Bones BBQ, Crazy Canuck Smokers, Razorback BBQ and The Hogfather. The ribbers will be offering up their best melt-off-the-bone ribs starting Friday night leading up to the Sunday afternoon Rib Off, when a panel of judges will be awarding prizes for the best ribs of the weekend.
And what’s a ribfest without a little beer to wash everything down? This year’s beer tent, situated conveniently in the very centre of the grounds, will feature offerings from Mill St. Brewery and Georgina Bay Spirit Co.
Hours of operation are Friday 5-11pm, Saturday 11am-11pm, and Sunday from 11am-7pm. For full information and schedule, visit www.markhamribfest.com.
The Markham Rotary Ribfest is presented by the Markham Rotary Club Foundation and organized by the members of the Rotary Club of Markham Sunrise Inc. Visit www.rotary.org for information about Rotary International and the Rotary Foundation. All proceeds from the $2 admission charge go to Rotary’s 2019 Charities of Choice. Since 2003, Markham Rotary Ribfest has raised over $200,000 for charity.
